AHMEDABAD: Madhavpura police has seized Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2 lakh, which a bootlegger had sent to the wrong destination. The cops were given an input which led to the seizure of the consignment.
According to an FIR filed with Madhavpura police on Saturday, a police constable with the surveillance squad, Jugendrasinh Som, said that he along with sub-inspector R D Rohit, three constables, and an ASI were told by the police officer to seize the consignment.
The cops got a message that 19 plastic drums filled with the bottles were lying at a godown near Prem Darwaza. The cops recovered bottles of whisky and vodka, some of them premium brands.
The owner of the godown, Banveersingh Chaudhary, 62, told the cops that he had ordered 19 plastic drums from a Delhi-based company about a week ago. The truck filled with the booze drums was found parked at his godown on Saturday morning. It had been sent by Balaji Traders from Samaypur in Delhi and was supposed to be sent to Ganpati Traders in Nadiad.
When Chaudhary checked the drums, he found the liquor bottles and called the cops.
Madhavpura police has invoked the charges of the Prohibition Act and is hunting for those connected with the consignment.
