Fake doctor, husband held for cheating job seekers of 59L
Coimbatore: The crime branch of the city police on Friday arrested a woman and her husband, who had cheated several job seekers of 59 lakh, from neighbouring Kerala.
The accused were identified as Dhanya, 39, and her husband Karunanidhi, 40.
According to complainant P Nufail, 23, of SRS Nagar at Sulur, Dhanya, who posed as a doctor working in ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, and Karunanidhi, told him about several vacancies in the hospital and asked him to find people interested in the jobs.
As many as 10 people gave 59 lakh to the couple, including Nufail, who paid 3 lakh for a job for his sister. The couple even gave appointment orders to some of them. When the orders turned out to be fake, the job seekers tried to contact the duo, but their phones were switched off.
CCB inspector P Renuga registered a case against the couple under sections 120 (B), 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code on June 24.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that it was not the first time the couple had cheated job seekers. The Singanallur police registered a case in March based on a complaint from P Murugan of SLS Nagar at Sulur. Cases were also registered against them in a police station in Kochi, Kerala, and Subramaniapuram police station in Madurai.
A police team reached Kannur in Kerala in search of the couple and arrested them from the Kannur Bus Terminal. They were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
