Conservative rivals Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak held face-to-face talks late Saturday, reports said, as the feuding pair who once headed Britain's government were poised to battle for the leadership of their fractured ruling party. Former prime minister Johnson, who returned from a Caribbean holiday earlier in the day aiming to launch an audacious political comeback just weeks after leaving office, met ex-finance minister Sunak to discuss the race, the BBC and others reported. Both are yet to declare they will run to replace outgoing leader Liz Truss, who announced Thursday she would stand down -- just 44 tempestuous days into her tenure.

Ayodhya has rolled out a red carpet for Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is arriving in the holy city on Sunday evening to attend events at the Deepotsav Mahotsav. The Prime Minister will witness a laser show in Ayodhya after paying obeisance to Ram Lalla at Ram Janmabhoomi temple. "All preparations have been made for a special puja ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi on Prime Minister's visit," said Acharya Satyendra Das, head priest. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will show the Prime Minister the ongoing work at the under-construction Ram temple at Ram Janmabhoomi.

BSF seized 14.47 kgs of silver jewellery on international border
Thwarting the smuggling attempts, the Border Security Forces seized 14.47 kgs of silver jewellery on an international border. On Friday at around 0710 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier seized 14.472 kgs of silver jewellery with an estimated value of 5,85,276 rupees, informed an official release on Saturday.
Badrinath-Kedarnath temple doors to remain closed on Oct 25
Doors of Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple will remain closed on October 25 on the solar eclipse, said the temple committee. After the eclipse, the pujas will be performed in the evening, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Shri Kedarnath-Badrinath Temple Committee added. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at Badrinath temple on Friday. Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accompanied Prime Minister at the shrine.

The Tories have now been forced into a second, this time expedited, leadership contest since the summer after Truss resigned following her disastrous tax-slashing mini-budget sparked economic and political turmoil.
Johnson cut short a luxury stay in the Dominican Republic to join the seemingly three-way tussle, with allies saying he was "up for it".
The BBC and Sky News also reported separately that Johnson, who arrived in London earlier on Saturday after a holiday in the Caribbean, now had more than 100 backers.

Rishi Sunak supporters claimed on Saturday that the Indian-origin former chancellor has hit the threshold of 100 members of Parliament required to make it to the shortlist for the race to replace Liz Truss as the Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister. The 42-year-old frontrunner's tally continues to grow as former prime minister Boris Johnson flew back from his Caribbean holiday and his camp also claimed that he has the requisite minimum of 100 MPs for a possible leadership bid.
