Ludhiana: Nine road cave-ins have been reported in less than three months in the city. The ninth incident was reported at Model Town market near Gulati Chowk on Saturday, when part of the road collapsed.
Worried about the increasing size of the crater formed after the road collapse, shopkeepers have alerted officials concerned. They apprehend accidents caused by further damage due to the heavy festive season rush.
Arvind Sharma, a shopkeeper in the area said that the market is very busy these days and this is not the time when road cave-ins are generally reported. He said that such incidents usually take place in the rainy season.
Superintending engineer Ravinder Garg said that the problem had been resolved. He added that it was a minor cave caused due to sand settling under the road.
