AHMEDABAD: A 62-year-old Sarkhej resident has accused his son-in-law of attacking him with a knife on Friday. Gulamdastgir Malek claimed that Mazharkhan Pathan wanted him to persuade his daughter to withdraw the police complaint against him.
Malek told police that his daughter Lubna had married Pathan, also a resident of Sarkhej, a while ago. "Pathan used to drink frequently, and he and his parents would also harass Lubna. So, my daughter filed a police complaint against her mother-in-law Bismillahbibi and Pathan," Malek told police.
He added, "My daughter was pregnant, and she came to live with me. However, six days after her delivery, the baby girl died." On Thursday evening, Malek was at his shop when he allegedly received a call from Pathan. "He abused me and asked me to persuade Lubna to withdraw the case against him and his mother. He also asked us to come to court on Friday for divorce proceedings. Later, Pathan came to my shop and abused me again. He then took out a knife and attacked him," said Malek.
Malek allegedly received injuries on his hand and called for help while Pathan ran away. The sexagenarian was then rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, after which he registered a complaint against Pathan.
