GHAZIABAD: The air quality of Ghaziabad and Meerut on Saturday was the third worst in the country, recording an AQI of 312. So far in October, this is the first time that Ghaziabad's AQI has breached the 300-mark.
Ghaziabad's air quality index, however, was based on the reading of only two pollution monitoring stations out of four. The readings for Indirapuram and Vasundhara were not available. Loni station at 7.10pm recorded an AQI of 355 which comes under the 'very poor' category while Sanjay Nagar recorded an AQI of 260.
Track the pollution level in your cityThe AQI in Greater Noida and Noida on Saturday remained within the mid and higher range of 'poor' category. Greater Noida recorded an AQI of 261 while in Noida, it was 290.
At 7.10pm, Greater Noida's Knowledge Park-3 recorded an AQI of 236 whereas Knowledge Park-5 registered an AQI of 267.
During the same time, Noida's Sector 116 station recorded an AQI of 295 followed by Sector 125 (290), Sector 62 (275) and Sector 1 (280).
According to SAFAR, for the next three days, peak surface wind speed is likely to reach 8-10 km/h causing weak dispersion and the AQI may worsen in Delhi-NCR to the lower end of 'severe' category on Diwali night and the day after.
Meanwhile, the AQI in Gurgaon remained in the 'poor' zone for the second successive day on Saturday, at 206, with forecasts predicting a climb into the 'very poor'. With Diwali around the corner, pollution control board officials are also factoring in the impact of firecrackers being burst, even though they are banned.
