Make Mangarh Dham a national monument: Gehlot writes to PM
Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot took a detailed review of the development work of Mangarh Dham at his residence on Saturday.
Gehlot directed to complete development works being done by the state government at Mangarh Dham in a time-bound manner. He also directed to complete the necessary preparations for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Banswara on November 1. Gehlot said that he has written to the Prime Minister twice demanding that Mangarh Dham, located in Banswara, be declared a monument of national importance.
In his letter, the chief minister informed the Prime Minister that in 1913, the British army opened fire on the forest dwellers gathered under the leadership of Govind Guru in Mangarh. More than 1,500 forest dwellers lost their lives in this firing. To underline the sacrifice of the forest dwellers and the contribution of Govind Guru, the state government has built Tribal Freedom Struggle Museum at Mangarh Dham.
Gehlot wrote that there is a demand to declare Mangarh as a monument of national importance by the people's representatives of the tribal/tribal-dominated areas of Banswara, Dungarpur districts of Udaipur division. Earlier on August 8, 2022 also a letter was written to the Centre on behalf of the chief minister reiterating this demand.
Gehlot urged Prime Minister Modi to accord the status of a monument of national importance to Mangarh Dham. It is a true tribute to the great saint Shri Govind Guru, who made invaluable sacrifices and contributed to the creation of new consciousness among tribal community.
