Cops hurt in stone-pelting by criminals during raid at Sonari
Jamshedpur: Police here on Saturday launched a hunt to arrest those who had injured cops by pelting stones at them under the Sonari police station area on Friday night.
Two police personnel — sub-inspector Sumit Kumar and jawan Virendra Kumar Das — received multiple injuries when the miscreants hurled stones at them during a raid.
DSP (Headquarters II) Kamal Kishore said the accused have been identified and raids are on at multiple places. “The injured policemen, admitted to hospital, are stable,” he added.
Late on Friday night, the miscreants assaulted the policemen when they had gone to Pandey Mohalla under the Sonari police station limits to round-up those who created ruckus when the locals opposed them for playing cards and taking drugs earlier in the day.
Amit Kumar, a local resident, told the police that the anti-social elements thrashed him when he opposed them for loitering around his house. He also objected when some members of the gang played cards on the cemented platform near his house.
Local sources said the gang members have encroached upon a plot of land in the middle of the colony where they often indulge inillegal activities and create nuisance in an inebriated state till late hours.
Soon after being alerted, the police rushed to the spot as the criminals launched an attack on their personnel.
“Three persons — Ganesh Kumar alias Kalia, Daya Yadav and Amit Giri — are the prime accused in the case,” said another cop.
“The police conducted raids all through the night in different places to arrest them as the trio and their aides fled towards Kapali in adjoining Chandil in Seraikela-Kharsawan district,” he added.
