NEW DELHI: Delhi University on Saturday said that joint control rooms, one each in North and South Campus, would be set up from November 2 to ensure a smooth induction of students in the upcoming academic session.
“A number of important decisions have been taken to ensure maintenance of discipline and prevention of ragging in the university and college campuses. All students, hostel residents as well as their parents or guardians have been asked to give an undertaking regarding anti-ragging,” registrar Vikas Gupta said.
While colleges and hostels have been asked to restrict the entry of outsiders and to prominently display rules regarding prohibition of ragging, Gupta said that disciplinary committees and vigilance squads are also required to be formed by colleges with the help of NCC and NSS student volunteers to monitor ragging.
The university said that apart from anti-ragging measures, police pickets would also be placed outside each college with special assistance to women colleges. “Any act of indiscipline or ragging will be dealt with strictly under the university’s statutes and ordinances that give legal authority to principals, heads or directors to take preventive as well as punitive action wherever required. Police assistance will be sought whenever a situation warrants direct intervention by them,” it added.
Gupta further added, “Patrolling has also been enforced to monitor and to take speedy action in case of any untoward incident on the campus. Delhi Police has assured that women police in plainclothes will be deployed in the university as well as outside the premises of each college. In case of any ragging or eve-teasing, the police will take care of the offenders.”
