LUDHIANA: The city residents will be able to enjoy a safe
Diwali with their family members, as the fire officials will remain on their toes. When the people are celebrating the festival with their family and friends, these brave firefighters will be on duty round-the-clock for controlling the fire incidents. On Saturday, the fire officials carried out a mock drill at the mall near the central fire station located at the local bus stand. They demonstrated the working of fire tenders, and also asked people to adopt precautions while bursting crackers. The fire officials enacted an incident of fire in the mall and also saved a person from emergency situation.
The officials claimed that for the past many years, they haven’t been able to celebrate this festival with their family members, and instead remain on duty so that the residents could enjoy . They requested the public to take all preventive measures before they start bursting the crackers, and burst crackers only for two hours, which is permissible time limit.
Sub-fire officer Maninder Singh said, “We have made all the arrangements for the fire safety, and temporary fire stations have been set up so the fire tenders don’t take much time in reaching the destination.” He said they conducted a mock drill just to check the preparedness of staff, and earlier they had also checked the fire hydrants in old markets and found out that they are in working conditions. He said in the old markets, the fire tenders cannot move easily so in those markets, they will control the fire with fire hydrants. At some locations, the civic officials would also remain on duty for keeping the tube-wells functional.
