Amul Dairy hikes milk procurement price by 20 per kilo fat for farmers
Vadodara/ Anand: Ahead of the Diwali festivities, the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (KDCMPUL), popularly known as Amul Dairy, has announced that it will hike milk procurement price paid to its farmer members by Rs 20 per kilo fat.
Amul Dairy’s chairman Ramsinh Parmar on Friday told TOI that the revised milk procurement price will be implemented from November 1.
“We are currently paying Rs 760 per kilo fat to our farmer members. We have decided to increase the procurement price by Rs 20 per kilo fat after which they will start getting Rs 780 per kilo fat,” said Parmar.
Nearly 7 lakh farmers, who are members in the network of the co-operative milk union, in Anand, Kheda and Mahisagar districts will benefit from the move.
The decision will result in an additional burden of Rs 6 crore per month to the milk union.
“Farmers are under pressure as cattle feed prices have increased, there is a shortage of dry fodder, and they are also facing impact of the lumpy skin disease. So, we have decided to increase the procurement prices,” he said.
This is the third time this year that the milk union has increased procurement prices paid to the farmers. Earlier, the milk union had increased procurement prices by Rs 20 and Rs 10.
The milk union procures nearly 25 lakh litres of milk per day from Anand, Kheda and Mahisagar districts.
