Police salute peers lost in the line of duty
Dharwad/ Hubballi: The police on Friday saluted 264 of their peers who had died on duty on Police Commemoration Day.
Every year, on October 21, the sacrifice of policemen in 1959 in the India-China border conflict. This is a day when the contributions of policemen who died in duty that year are remembered.
At the event in Hubballi, deputy commissioner Gurudatt Hegde said the district administration would extend all cooperation to the police department to discharge its duties efficiently. he said that a forensic science laboratory had been opened in Hubballi and land for police firing range will also be acquired within a year.
The event, organised by the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate at CAR ground in Hubballi, was attended by police commissioner Labhuram who read out the names of the personnel martyred last year. He said that 264 police personnel had lost their lives across the country.
MLC Basavaraj Horatti, railway IGP Alok Kumar, HDMC commissioner B Gopalkrishna,NWKRTC managing director S Bharat, DCPs Sahil Bagla and Gopal Byakod were among others present.
In Dharwad, principal district and sessions judge KG Shanti took the salute from the police and placed the wreath at the Police Martyr Memorial. The parents of constable Pandit Kasar, of Kalghatagi police station in Dharwad, who lost his life while on duty, placed a wreath too.
Superintendent of police Lokesh Jagalasar read out the names of the police personnel killed last year. Karnataka had lost 11 policemen, including two from Dharwad district. Conservator of forests Vinod Tripathi, assistant chief conservator Sourabhkumar were present.
