State no to Shukla’s prosecution in Khadse, Raut cases
The state government has refused city police permission to prosecute IPS officer Rashmi Shukla, accused of tapping the phones of NCP leader Eknath Khadse and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. Colaba police had filed a case against Shukla in March, recorded her statement twice and filed a 750-page chargesheet in April. They had then sent aproposal to the state government seeking permission from a competent authority to prosecute the former State Intelligence Department (SID) chief under section 197 of the CrPC. The government sent the file to the city police chief’s office and it will now be forwarded to the police station.
Maha govt rolls out Rs 50k farmers’ incentive scheme
On the eve of Diwali, the state government began disbursal of Rs 50,000 as part of an incentive scheme for farmers who have been repaying their short-term crop loans on time under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule loan waiver scheme. The scheme had earlier been announced by the MVA. On Thursday, Rs 2,500 crore was transferred directly to 6. 9 lakh bank accounts of farmers. CM Eknath Shinde said Maharashtra was the first state to make such simultaneous transfers directly to the bank accounts of farmers. In all, Rs 4,700 crore will be transferred to 16 lakh farmers.
On October 21, 2020, the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government had withdrawn the general consent to the CBI under the contention that the central government was misusing central probe agencies to settle political scores.
With the reversal of this decision, the CBI will no longer require permission of the state government to step in, he said.
