BATHINDA: After witnessing a spike in cases for five consecutive days, the crop residue burning subdued on Thursday with 96 cases being recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 2,721. For five days, the cases remained in three figures and had recorded 1,556 stubble burning cases.
Against 96 burning cases on Wednesday, the 950 cases were reported on the day in 2020 and 788 cases on the day in 2021. Against the 2,721 burning cases in the ongoing season, 8,065 were reported in 2020 and 3,730 in 2021. The border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran in Majha of Punjab are facing more cases - so far, they have recorded 1,613 cases, which is over 59% of the total cases.

About 821 cases have been reported from Tarn Taran while 792 cases have been reported from Amritsar, followed by 230 burning cases recorded in Gurdaspur, 142 in Kapurthala, 127 each in Ferozepur, Patiala, 107 in Jalandhar, 71. in Sangrur, 70 in Ludhiana, 55 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 52 in Moga, 23 in Fazilka, 17 each in Mansa, SAS Nagar, 14 each in Faridkot, Bathinda, 13 in Barnala, 10 in Malerkotla, eight in Roopnagar, five in Muktsar, four in Hoshiarpur and two in SBS Nagar districts.
