MADURAI: A pregnant woman and her
mother died after an ambulance they were travelling in rammed a roadside
tree at Senkulam in Sivaganga district of
Tamil Nadu on Friday morning.
Two ambulance crew members, who suffered grievous injuries, were admitted to Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital.
Nivedha, who was pregnant, went into labour in the early hours of Friday. A government ambulance was called to her village Nenjathur around 4am. Nivedha and her mother Vijayalakshmi the ambulance and they were on their way to Government Medical College Hospital in Sivaganga town.
The ambulance rammed a tamarind tree on the roadside as the driver lost control of the vehicle. The accident happened near Senkulam on the Sivaganga – Ilayangudi Road. Nivedha and her mother Vijayalakshmi died on the spot and the unborn baby also died in the accident.
Ambulance driver Malaiarasan and medical assistant Tiruselvi suffered critical injuries.
The Sivaganga Taluk police registered a case.
