Mughal Road in J&K closed after fresh snowfall

JAMMU: The historical Mughal Road, connecting Shopian in Kashmir Valley with Poonch in Jammu region, was closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday due to heavy snowfall overnight.
The meteorological department had forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall over higher reaches in most places of Kashmir and at a few places in Jammu region till late Thursday afternoon. Rains lashed plains in Jammu, causing drop in temperature, while the upper reaches witnessed rain and light snowfall.
“The Mughal Road, an alternative route connecting Kashmir Valley to Jammu region, was closed due to heavy snowfall on Thursday,” a traffic official said, adding that the road will be declared open for traffic once it is cleared of snow.
"Men and machines have been pressed into service to clear the accumulated 2ft of snow from the Pir Ki Gali area on the Mughal road to make it traffic-worthy," the official said.
