New restaurant brings authentic Thai food to Marysville

Marysville residents can look forward to some new flavors and cuisine with the opening of a new Thai restaurant.

Spicy Thai Kitchen, which opened at 2309 Gratiot Blvd. earlier this month, serves authentic Thai dishes that allow customers to choose their spice level. Spice levels range from no spice and very mild, to mild, medium, hot and extra hot.

Owner Alexander Long said dishes are spiced with authentic Thai red chili peppers, which makes the dishes spicier than other cuisines. Even the mild spice can have quite a kick, he said.

"It's pretty hot," Long said.

Long said he also plans to add sushi and Thai salads to the menu, which features soup, fried rice, curry and authentic Thai recipes.

Long, whose parents are from Thailand and Laos, said he sees the restaurant as a way to share his family's recipes with the community. There are also two other Spicy Thai Kitchen locations in southeast Michigan, with plans to open more, he said.

"Basically, it's showing younger generations or whoever wants to learn our way of cooking and our recipes so it doesn't die out," Long said.

Long, of Chesterfield Township, said he chose Marysville as a way to share a new cuisine with the community, which doesn't have any other Thai restaurants.

Marysville resident Shelby Hooper sat in the small dining room Tuesday eating a colorful plate of scallop curry. As she ate, numerous customers stopped in the door to pick up carryout orders as diners from the lunch rush emptied out of the restaurant.

Hooper said the food was delicious and the perfect amount of spice. She said she loves Thai food, and was excited to try the restaurant when it opened.

"It's just refreshing. It's good to see other culture-based restaurants are coming in Marysville," she said. "It's nice to experience food from all around the world."

Marysville resident Ashley Loane stopped in to pick up her carryout order. She said this was her first time trying the food, which was highly recommended by friends. She said she was happy to have a different dining option in town.

"I'm excited to try it," she said.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The restaurant is also hiring for several positions. To order or inquire about employment, call (810) 662-3942.
