From April, smart cards must for city students to avail concession

Jaipur: Come April 1, 2023, students in the city can’t simply board on to a bus of Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) and avail students’ concession.
In JCSTL board meeting held on Thursday it has been decided that from next financial year students need to carry a smartcard offered by JCSTCL to avail such concessions. As per the rule book, a students need to apply for a smart card with JCTSL and the JCSTL official would issue the smart card only after pre-verifying the identity of the applicants.
A student can then board the bus with the smartcard and ask the conductor to swipe it to avail the concession. Officials at JCTSL claimed that they have observed that there are two types of problems regarding this students’ concession.
First, sometimes it becomes difficult for the conductors to determine whether a youngster is really a student or not. Second, sometimes conductors also take normal fare from these students but issue concession tickets to them and keep the balance in their pockets.
“The new system will actually solve both the problems. Since only pre-verified students will get smart cards there would no need to determine the students’ identity. Second, conductors need to swipe the card and generate concession tickets from the swiping machine. So, they won’t be able to manipulate any concession fare,” Ajitabh Sharma, the managing director of JSCTCL, told TOI.
Officials claimed, JCTSL has apprised that till date Rs 162 crore of concessions and rebates have been given to the passengers under various categories.
