NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday offered prayers at the famous Kedarnath and Badrinath temples in Uttarakhand during his day-long visit to the hill state.
Besides inaugurating key projects, PM Modi also addressed a rally at Mana — the last village on India-China border. The address is said to be a crucial one considering the tense border situation between India and China.
Here are the key developments of the day ... - The Prime Minister performed the "puja" at the temples wearing a white traditional attire of the hill people with a swastika embroidered on it.
- He laid the foundation stone for the 9.7-km Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project. Using the ropeway, devotees will be able to reach the temple from Gaurikund in 30 minutes.
- PM Modi laid the foundation stone for road widening projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore.
- He later visited the Samadhi Sthal of Adi Guru Shankaracharya at Kedarnath and spent some time there.
- Later, the Prime Minister arrived at the Badrinath temple in Chamoli in a helicopter.
- In Badrinath, he will review the progress of the development projects along the riverfront
- During his two-day tour of the state, Modi will inspect various ongoing development projects and lay the foundation stones for some new ones.

PM Modi dons 'Chola Dora', fulfils promise to Chamba womenPrime Minister Narendra Modi donned the traditional 'Chola Dora' outfit gifted to him by women of Himachal Pradesh's Chamba while performing prayers in Kedarnath.
The traditional pahadi outfit in white colour and sporting fine hand embroidery was gifted to PM Modi during his recent visit to Himachal.
PM Modi, on receiving the gift, had promised the women that he would wear it at the first instance during a visit to a cold region.
'Every border village is first village in India'Later, addressing a rally at Mana, PM Modi said that every border village should be considered as India's first, not last, village.
"Mana village is considered the last village in India. But from now onwards, every village located in the border areas will be considered as the first village of India," he said.
PM Modi said the construction of ropeway projects (Gaurikund to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib) won't just provide connectivity but will also give a fillip to the economic development in the state.
He also urged all the tourists in the country to spend at least 5% of their travel budget on buying local products.
