Two nabbed for killing Khunti woman for ‘witchcraft’

RANCHI: Khunti police arrested two persons for allegedly killing Dukhni Devi (60) on suspicion of practising witchcraft under the Murhu police station area on July 18.
The arrested persons are Dasay Purti and Sundray Sarukad. A sharp weapon used in the crime has been recovered from them, police said.
Khunti SDPO Amit Kumar said, “According to the statement of the accused, a local sorcerer had told Dasay that the latter’s mother was unwell as Dukhni Devi practised witchcraft on her. He mobilised several persons and killed the woman.” The deceased’s son whose name is also Dasay Purti had registered a case with the police against one dozen unidentified persons for killing his mother.
