MUMBAI: The state government on Thursday cleared a Rs 20,000 crore paper manufacturing plant by the Indonesia-based Sinar Mas (Asia Paper and Pulp) group in Raigad after a meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on industries. The sub-committee also decided to extend its incentive package for industries by two years since it could not be utilised during the pandemic.
Sinar Mas Pulp and Paper Pvt Ltd is the largest paper manufacturing firm in Asia. This is the first time it will be making such a large investment in India, officials said. An area of 300 acres had already been earmarked for the project in Raigad's Dherand area but the state is willing to make more land available.
The sub-committee also cleared a project by Gencrest Bio-products in Jalgaon to create products from the waste product of bananas. The initial investment of the project will be around Rs 650 crore.
The sub-committee also cleared incentives to 11 industrial units which will provide them with benefits worth Rs30,000 crore, officials said.
"After almost 12 months, a meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on industries was held and various decisions were taken to clear investments worth Rs 25,368 crore, generating 7,430 employment opportunities," deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted.
