VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will for the first time begin recycling plastic waste in the city. A plant working on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode was inaugurated by the civic body on Thursday in Atladara.
The plant has been set up by a contractor on land provided by VMC. It has the capacity to recycle 50 tonnes of plastic waste per day. It will convert plastic waste into granules that will be supplied to the plastic industry.
Officials said that the contractor will collect plastic from the city including from the garbage collected by the civic body. The plastic will be cleaned and processed to make granules at the Atladara plant.
The water used for cleaning and other processes at the plant will be treated at the plant itself. The treated water will be reused at the plant.
The plant has come up in space where garbage existed earlier. The garbage was processed to clear land and a part of the land was used to make the plant which was inaugurated on Thursday.
