Diwali ‘Daan Utsav’ a success; MC to donate items today

Ludhiana: The municipal corporation (MC), which had organised ‘Daan Utsav’ (charity event) with the help of various NGOs, will distribute various items, including books, clothes and toys collected under the event, among the needy on Friday.
The activity had been planned in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Moga. Cities of Ludhiana and Amritsar gave a good response to the event. Maneet Diwan from the NGO City Need shared that they received overwhelming response from people who donated books, clothes, bedding, woollen items, utensils and appliances in bulk.
. He shared that two trucks-full of stuff are already headed to Moga, and the local dispatches would be out on Friday.
In association with the MC, City Needs had set up over 30 dropping centres in Ludhiana where people could donate items. The collected items were then taken to the Indoor Stadium, Pakhowal Road, where they were segregated and given to local NGOs as per their requirement. Clothes will be given to NGOs like Neki Ki dukaan, Nishkam Vidya Mandir, Bhavdev and other self-help groups to make cloth bags; books and stationary will be given to Helping Hands Club, Initiators of Change and Do Good foundation; toys to Nishkam Vidya Mandir, Clio Care Welfare Association, SBG Balghar, Eknoor Neki Da Hospital, dispensaries and charitable hospitals; and the beddings are for senior citizen homes like Vivekananda Sewa Ashram and Guru Amar Das Ashram.
