Mangaluru: A technical sub-committee will be formed for the revival of Baggundi Lake and the development works of the lake will be taken up gradually, said deputy commissioner K V Rajendra.
The DC chaired a meeting at the zilla panchayat to discuss Baggundi lake development, Kandla Vana (mangrove forest) revival project and the conservation of the Kudumbur stream on Tuesday. The lake is spread over 50 acres in Kulai and is famous for its annual fishing carnival held in March.
Rajendra said once the technical sub-committee is formed for the revival of Baggundi Lake, comprehensive development of the lake will be taken up. MRPL will be providing Rs 16 crore for the development of the lake. “The opinion of experts will be sought for the planning, revival and development of the lake,” he said.
The DC said that help will also be sought from the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, for the lake revival project. A report must be submitted on industries discharging effluents to the lake. He directed officials to get back lake area that is with Jesco.
