Straight trees always cut first: Ashok Khemka over appointment of his batchmates as secretaries

"Straight trees are always cut first", said senior bureaucrat Ashok Khemka while reacting to appointments of some of his batchmates as secretaries in different Central government departments. 

Khemka, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1991 batch, is currently serving as Principal Secretary (Additional Secretary level) in his cadre state Haryana. 

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointment of 16 senior bureaucrats, including his batchmates, as secretaries in various Central government departments. 

"Congratulations to my batchmates newly appointed as Secretaries to GOI! While this is an occasion for merry, it brings an equal measure of despondency for one's own self having been left behind. Straight trees are always cut first. No regrets. With renewed resolve, I shall persist," Khemka tweeted. (PTI)

MoUs worth Rs 1,53,000 crore signed at DefExpo 2022

As many as 451 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements worth Rs 1.53 lakh crore were signed during the Defence Expo or DefExpo 2022 at Gandhinagar, a senior official said. 

During the valedictory function of the 12th edition of DefExpo at the Mahatma Mandir convention centre, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar informed the audience that it had broken previous records in terms of business generation. (PTI)

Cong insulted tribal culture, but community will teach lesson to party, says PM Modi in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of making fun of tribal traditions and culture, and added that people from the community would not forget the "insult" and they would "teach a lesson" to the party. 

Addressing a rally after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for various projects at Vyara in the tribal-dominated Tapi district of Gujarat, he also alleged that the previous Congress governments never took steps to improve the condition of tribal people as it just focused on winning elections. India will soon become a global hub of medical tourism, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said today, highlighting that the country is progressing towards a "healthy future" through investments in health infrastructure. 

Mandaviya made the remarks after virtually inaugurating multiple health infrastructure projects -- three primary healthcare centres (PHCs), Dr Vikhe Patil Cancer Centre and Dr Vikhe Patil Nuclear Medicine Centre -- in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar. (PTI)
