NOIDA: A constable with Phase-1 police station has been suspended for dereliction of duty after a suspected drug peddler man fled from police custody, officials said on Wednesday.
Investigation revealed that the accused, Bhishma Singh, fled from police custody on the pretext of going to the toilet. Originally from Bihar, Singh was arrested from his rented house in Noida's Barola village on Tuesday for alleged possession of 1.4 kg of marijuana.
Additional DCP Ashutosh Dwivedi said, "He was held at the police station for interrogation. On Tuesday afternoon, he sought to go to the toilet. He was escorted by constable Sunny Chaudhary but escaped as the cop was standing at a distance from him since there is no toilet at the police station."
The constable chased the suspect but could not nab him. On Tuesday evening, Chaudhary was suspended by DCP (Noida) for dereliction of duty, Dwivedi added.
Meanwhile, another FIR was registered against the suspect under IPC sections 223 (escape from confinement) and 224 (resistance by a person to his lawful apprehension). "Teams have been formed to nab him," the additional DCP said.
