HYDERABAD: A day after a driver was arrested for allegedly raping a four-year-old student, Banjara Hills police on Wednesday took the principal of the private school, his employer, into custody.
Later in the day, the 55-year-old principal was remanded in 14-day judicial custody.
Based on the complaint of the girl's parents, police had registered a case under Sections 376 AB (rape of a girl under 12 years of age) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sections 5 (m), 6 and 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the 34-year-old driver and his employer-cum-school principal on Tuesday.
The driver was charged for sexually assaulting the girl on the school premises.
The principal was booked for negligence as the complainants stated before police that the incident happened at the school under her watch. "We have arrested the principal and produced her before a magistrate," ACP, Banjara Hills, M Sudarshan said.
The ACP told media that the main accused was produced before the court and he was sent in 14-day judicial remand. "So far, we have not received any complaints from parents of other students," he said.
While the parents of the girl alleged that the school management did not give them access to CCTV footage, police said that they have got access to the footage and it was being verified. Cops also said that the accused had confessed to have committed the offence only once and claimed to have never misbehaved with others.
The girl's family alleged that the accused used to take the girl from her class to the digital classroom, disrobe her and sexually assault her. "The accused used to throttle and threaten her," police said.
The parents roughed up the accused before handing over the driver to police.
