NEW DELHI:
The government on Wednesday made 16 top-level appointments. Registrar General of India, Vivek Joshi, a 1989-batch officer from Haryana, will replace Sanjay Malhotra in the department of financial services, which deals with state-run banks and insurance companies. Manoj Govil from the MP cadre will be the new corporate affairs secretary, a ministry which has not had a full-time secretary for the last few months.
But when it comes to departments like food, the government is not taking any chances given the current price situation and named Sanjeev Chopra, an IAS officer from Odisha, as the replacement for Sudhanshu Pandey, who retires this month.
Following a clearance by the appointments committee of cabinet, the department of personnel and training notified appointment of Shailesh Kumar Singh, as new rural development secretary, replacing NN Sinha, who will move to steel ministry. The government approved appointment of current NHAI chairperson Alka Upadhyaya as new road transport secretary.
At least eight officers have been given the secretary rank but will continue in their current jobs.
