RAJKOT: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Wednesday mounted a full-on attack on his political opponents and asked people in his home state to rout those insulting
Gujarat with what he called a torrent of canards.
At a rally in Junagadh, where he dedicated to the people and laid foundation stones of projects worth Rs 4,155 crore, Modi said some parties have developed a habit of trash-talking Gujarat and people should teach them a lesson.
"Gujarat has progressed due to the hard work and penance of its people. The state has given employment to people from across the country. But for the past 20 years, gloom-mongers and fault-finders are unable to digest Gujarat's progress. Their pervert mentality is reflected in the abusive language and falsehoods they are spreading about the state," he said in an attack aimed at AAP.
AAP has been actively campaigning in Gujarat, where assembly polls are due this year-end. The party got into trouble recently when a video surfaced and its state president Gopal Italia was purportedly seen and heard abusing Modi as "neech" (lowly person).
Modi said some parties feel their ideology is incomplete without showing Gujarat in a poor light. Not just Gujarat, but no one from any region of India should be subjected to slander, he said. "Be it someone from Bengal,
Tamil Nadu or
Kerala...their hard work and achievements should fill everyone with pride. We need to admonish the culture of playing politics over this."
