Jaipur: The power situation in the state witnessed a major boost before
Diwali as two thermal units which were shut due to technical faults have been made operational.
The unit number 7 of Suratgarh Super Critical Thermal Power Station has started generating 660MW of power. Similarly, the unit number 4 of Chhabra Thermal Power Plant has started producing 250MW power. However, thermal unit in Chhabra has been made partially operational.
An official said, the unit in Suratgarh was closed for the past seven months after a blast in the transformer occurred.
The generation transformer damaged by in the blast was transferred to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). After sending it to the workshop located in Bhopal, the thermal power team remained in constant touch with the expert team.
This had expedited the process and transformer was repaired with five months instead of one year which was the expected time.
“The generator was installed in Suratgarh plant on September 22. After testing it for 21 days, the unit was made operational this week, “said an official.
Similarly, after reconstructing the damaged portion the Chhabra unit, which was closed for past 11 months was made operational.
It was closed after a portion of the building had completely collapsed and the other portion was also severely damaged leading to the closure of the unit.
“At present, the unit is producing around half the capacity (125 MW),” said an official.
Earlier, the shutdown in units had led to a shortfall of 4,910MW as per the Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (RUVNL) assessment.
