KALYAN: Architect Sandeep Patil, who blew the whistle on 65 builders in Kalyan- Dombivli area, has sought police protection from Thane police. Patil on Wednesday wrote to the police saying that he has been receiving threatening calls for exposing the RERA scam.
He had on Tuesday met DCP Sachin Gunjal in this connection. Presently, apart from the Thane police's special investigation team, the Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the RERA scam.
Patil, who runs an architectural firm, is known to raise social issues. Recently, Patil learnt that some developers had started projects without permissions from the local authorities by showing RERA certificates. He collected permission documents obtained by these developers from the RERA website and verified them with the KDMC's town planning department through RTI. He found that KDMC had not given permission to any of the 65 developers. Initially, KDMC did not take action on Patil's complaint, forcing him to move the Bombay HC.
