Kanpur: The fate of around 67 contestants for 20 posts of the executive committee of the Lawyers Association was sealed in ballot boxes on Tuesday when around 4335 advocates out of 6460 members cast their votes in the annual general election held at the DAV Degree College campus here.
According to chairman, Elders Committee Yudhveer Singh Chauhan, around 67 per cent voting had taken place which was satisfactory. The voting was held in a peaceful manner and the ballot boxes were sealed in the presence of contesting candidates or their representatives, he said.
In the beginning, voting was a bit slow but it picked up later. Till the first half, the voting percentage was around 30 percent while in the second half it touched the 67 percent mark at 5 pm, Chauhan said. Only those advocate-members were allowed to cast their votes who had brought COP card and QR code slip issued by the Lawyers Association. The supporters had occupied the road between Kanpur court and DAV College. The district administration had made heavy police arrangement to ensure peaceful polling. Security personnel allowed the voters after cross-checking their COP and QR code slips. The contesting candidates distributed lunch packets and water pouches to their supporters. The counting of votes will begin on Wednesday, said Vijay Acharya, a member of the Elders’ Committee.
