NIA files chargesheet in Sunjwan terror attack case
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet in the Sunjwan terror attack case — in which two Jaish e Mohammad terrorists had infiltrated into the Samba sector with an intent to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu region in April this year, but were intercepted and killed by the forces — against 12 accused including Pakistan-based chief of Jaish e Mohammad Maulana Masoor Azhar and his brother Rouf Asghar Alvi.
The Sunjwan terror attack case relates to the conspiracy hatched among Kashmir-based terrorist operatives and Pakistan based leadership/handlers and terrorists of Jaish to attack a vital installation with a view to disrupting the scheduled visit of the PM, for which two JeM terrorists had infiltrated into India through a cross-border tunnel. The tunnel was excavated in the area falling under BOP Chack Faqira in the Samba sector.
The 12 persons named as accused in the chargesheet filed in the NIA Special Court, Jammu, include the Pakistan and PoK-based Jaish leaders and commanders like the outfit’s head Maulana Masood Azhar, his brother Rouf Asghar, Mohammad Mussdaiq @ Doctor, Shahid Latif and Masood Ilyas Kashmiri. Other Kashmiri terrorists chargesheeted are Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh from Pulwama, Bilal Ahmad Wagay fromAnantnag; Mohd Ishaq Chopan from Anantnag; Abid Mushtaq Mir from Pulwama; Asif Ahmad Sheikh from Pulwama; and two slain terrorists against whom the charge stands abated.
NIA in statement on Wednesday said its investigation has revealed that the accused Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh, Bilal Ahmad Wagay, Mohd Ishaq Chopan, Abid Mushtaq Mir, Asif Ahmad Sheikh, entered into a criminal conspiracy with two freshly infiltrated Pakistani JeM terrorists and JeM leadership, namely Masood Azhar Alvi, Rouf Asgar Alvi, and launching commanders Mohammed Mussadiq, Shahid Latif and Masood Ilyas Kashmiri in the furtherance of which they received, transported and provided logistic support to newly infiltrated JeM terrorists who entered into Indian territory to execute a fidayeen attack on the security forces and other vital installations in Jammu region coinciding with the PM’s visit on 24.04.2022.
