Daltonganj: The civil engineering (B and S) department of Railway Board has written to 100 locations, including Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) identified by the Union ministry of railways, to implement mitigation plans to minimise rail-animal collision.
In the letter, dated 30.9.2022, director of the civil engineering (B and S) department, Railway Board, L L Meenato asked all railway general managers in wildlife vulnerable areas to take steps to identify 'curvature' (danger points of train-wildlife collision) in a bid to overcome the dangers.
The official has also asked the railway to work with stakeholders of wildlife to evolve a joint mechanism.

Arjun Singh and deputy director of PTR North division Kumar Ashish and other functionaries of both the sides had a preliminary discussions about the measures on Monday.
Singh said, “We had our first round of discussions with PTR. Our zonal railway office team, along with PTR officials, will conduct a survey to ensure the safety of wildlife and prevent train collisions.” The PTR comes under the East Central Railway of the Hajipur zonal railway in Bihar with divisional railway office at Dhanbad in Jharkhand.
“We, along with PTR officials, have located 1-km stretch near the Kechki railway station. Similarly, there is a 5km stretch between Chhipadohar and Hehegara stations where elephants cross the tracks," he added.
