Nagpur: The Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to enter Maharashtra on November 7 at Deglur in Nanded district and would be in the state till November 20 before moving on to Madhya Pradesh.
In its 382-km journey in Maharashtra, the rally would pass through parts of Vidarbha — Washim, Akola and Buldhana districts — from November 15.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole has deputed senior party leaders to look after the arrangements for the rally in the state. Former chief minister Ashok Chavan would take care of Nanded part, ex-minister Amit Deshmukh would look after Hingoli district, Teosa MLA Yashomati Thakur would be in-charge for Buldhana district and former power minister Nitin Raut would have responsibility of Akola and Washim districts.
Gandhi, an MP from Wayanad in Kerala, would be addressing two public rallies at Nanded and temple town of Shegaon, where lakhs of Congress workers from the entire state would be congregating, say party leaders.
“Not only our alliance partners from Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) like NCP and Shiv Sena, but also many big and small parties like RPI would also join the rally in the state. Even members of many civil societies and NGOs have extended their support to us. The leaders and workers from all these factions would join the rally when it would pass through their respective districts,” Raut told TOI.
Party’s chief spokesperson Atul Londhe said the Gandhi scion would address a rally at Nanded on November 10 and at Shegaon on November 19. “About five lakh people are expected to attend both the rallies. We have secured 50 acre open grounds on the outskirts of both the cities to accommodate such a huge number of people. The yatra is already evoking overwhelming response from not only the opposition parties, but also from citizens. Many are approaching us and we already have a big list. About 500 persons are travelling with Gandhi,” he told TOI.
Raut, an MLA from North Nagpur, said he will be moving to Akola and Washim next week to oversee arrangements till the rally’s departure from there.
Congress office-bearers from the city said many organizations following Gandhian philosophy would also be the part of the yatra, when it will enter Maharashtra at Deglur, located on the outskirts of Karnataka and Telangana border. Many eminent personalities like Swaraj India’s founding president Yogendra Yadav has already declared unconditional support to the rally. These leaders had interacted with the media on October 13 in Nagpur declaring their participation to denounce the divisive politics unleashed by BJP-led government at the Centre.
