
Delhi News Today Live Updates, October 19: The Delhi University (DU) Wednesday released the first merit list for admissions to undergraduate courses. At least six students with CUET score 800/800, were allotted their first preferences. The University opened the first round of its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS 2022) at 5 pm Wednesday and advised the students to ensure that they have secured their admission on the seat allocated to them, whenever offered. Once candidates receive their seat allocations after logging into the Delhi University admission dashboards, they will have to ‘accept’ the allocation. They will have a two-day window to accept it, starting from 5:00 pm on Wednesday to 4:59 pm on Friday.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday offered Prime Minister Narendra Modi to collaborate to work on the education sector and develop schools across the country. “I am giving an offer. We know how to develop and upgrade schools and education system… Let’s work together to develop schools education system,” Kejriwal said in his remarks after Prime Minister visited schools in Gandhinagar.

Following this, the college removed its admissions prospectus in which it had announced 15% weightage on interviews for all candidates. The prospectus had been up on the website since May.
Bursting of firecrackers on Diwali in Delhi will attract jail term up to six months and a fine of Rs 200, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported. Addressing a press conference, he said production, storage and sale of firecrackers in the capital will be punishable with a fine of up to Rs 5,000 and three years in jail under Section 9B of the Explosives Act. In September, the city government re-imposed a complete ban on the production, sale and use of all types of firecrackers till January 1, including on Diwali, a practice it has been following for the last two years.

3. Yashita Thareja has been alloted her first preference -- B.A. (Hons) Psychology at Lady Shri Ram College.
4. Muskan Rathi has been allotted her first preference -- BA (Hons) History at Lady Shri Ram College.
5. Poorav Bajaj has been alloted his first preference -- B.Com (Hons)in SRCC.
6. Richika Saikia has been allocated her first preference -- B.A. (Hons) Sociology in Miranda House.
Meanwhile, Priyanshu Dixit, with CUET score 800/800 has been alloted his second preference – B.A. (Hons) Political Science at Kirori Mal College. His first preference had been Political Science at Hindu College.

DU releases updated schedule for first round of seat allocations. Allocations will be declared at 5pm today. Candidates can start "accepting" their allocations from 5 pm today and the window for that will close at 4:59 pm on Friday.

Delhi HC today dismissed Samata Party’s plea challenging an October 10 notification of the Election Commission of India allotting the symbol “flaming torch” to ‘Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray Balasaheb Thackeray Party)’.
Justice Sanjeev Narula held that Samata Party had failed to demonstrate that they had a vested right in the symbol as the party was derecognized in 2004. Samata party was founded in 1994 by George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday postponed the hearing of its five-judge Constitution bench on the legal issue concerning the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Centre and Delhi government over control of services in the national capital.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli shifted the hearing on the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, and said that he will be unavailable on November 9 due to an official trip abroad.
The bench then posted the matter for further hearing on November 24.
On September 27, the top court had said that a Constitution bench headed by Justice Chandrachud would commence hearing the matter from November 9 on a day-to-day basis. (PTI)
A 38-year-old woman from Delhi was allegedly gangraped and brutally assaulted by a group of men in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad and then left on the roadside early on Tuesday, prompting the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to issue a notice to the Ghaziabad police in the matter.
The Ghaziabad police have taken four men into custody and said that the accused and the victim’s family were involved in a property dispute.
According to the Ghaziabad police, the woman who stays in East Delhi was found near Nandgram police station at 3.30 am on Tuesday. The police reached the spot after receiving information that a woman was lying on the ground near Ashram Road and rushed her to a hospital. Read More
Underneath the Lajpat Nagar flyover in South Delhi are a group of newly planted palm trees that are far away from what would have been their natural home – California in the United States. The species, Washingtonia filifera, with fan-shaped leaves and a stout trunk, and commonly called the ‘California fan palm’, is the newest addition to the city’s greenscape.
Among the species of palms that the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) is planting as part of its streetscaping project, the trees can be spotted along the central verge of Narwana Road in Patparganj and across the road from the Sarai Kale Khan bus stand, where they share space with date palm trees. Delhi on Wednesday recorded a minimum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal for this time of the year, the India Meteorological Department said.
The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 33 degrees Celsius.
Delhi's air quality continued to be in the poor category for the fourth consecutive day and any improvement is unlikely over the next few days.
The air quality index (AQI) stood at 241 at 9 am. (PTI)
The Delhi transport department has de-registered more than 50 lakh vehicles so far this year, according to official data.
The de-registered vehicles include diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years, officials said, adding this is the highest number of vehicles deregistered in a year.
The transport department has been cracking down on polluting vehicles in a bid to curb vehicular pollution.
According to the data, 53,38,045 vehicles have been de-registered between 2018 and 2022, with 50,25,447 vehicles being deregistered till October 17 this year. (PTI)
