Jaipur: Around 400 residents from Sanganer and Mansarovar areas of the city staged a protest outside the JMC Greater (JMC-G) office on Monday demanding resolution of issues such as waste collection, cleanliness in wards and repair of streetlights before Diwali.
The residents, who were led by Ashok Lahoty, the
BJP legislator from Sanganer, also raised the issue of rainwater accumulated in several wards and posing risks of breeding of mosquitoes and spread of dengue.
They alleged that streetlights were not being fixed in the wards of these two areas despite officials claiming that they have already started distributing 20 lights each to the councillors and that all streetlights would be repaired before Diwali.
After the protest, Lahoty and the residents met the mayor, commissioner and other JMC Greater officials. They submitted them a list of the residents’ demands and sought a resolution.
“The authorities are not listening to the councillors, public representatives and the residents, who have been raising the issues repeatedly. The garbage collection vehicle arrives only once in five to seven days. In bigger wards, two vehicles sometimes come, but it is not sufficient. There is no clarity on regular waste collection in smaller wards. Sweeping and cleaning also does not take place in the colonies,” said Lahoty. TNN
