JAIPUR: While voting was underway on Monday for the election of new Congress chief, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot spoke for the first time about his long association with the Gandhi family, saying, "My relation with the family is beyond any contention or logic and will remain so even after October 19 (when the new party chief is to be announced)."
"My relationship with them will remain the same as it has been for the last 50 years," he said.
He added, "Vinoba Bhave-ji had said once that the relationship between him and Geeta Mata is beyond logic, the relationship between me and Gandhi family is what Vinoba Bhave and Geeta Mata had. A relationship beyond logic. That will remain for a lifetime," said Gehlot.
Gehlot also said that members like
Jyotiraditya Scindia, RPN Singh and Jitin Prasada, who left Congress to join
BJP, were "opportunists" and pointed out that all of them had become Union ministers at a very young age in Congress. He also said young leaders should work hard, and when the time comes, the central leadership "will surely give them a chance just like we got"
