Bihar: EOU arrests 4 for pressuring DGP and senior police officers

PATNA: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police on Monday arrested four persons in connection with pressuring the DGP and other senior officials of Bihar police from a WhatsApp number, to close the case against an IPS officer.
One of them, impersonating as chief justice of the Patna high court, was pressuring the DGP to close the case against Aditya Kumar, an IPS officer of 2011-batch, while three other accused persons run mobile phone shops.
ADG (Headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar, while addressing the media persons here on Monday, said DGP SK Singhal informed the ADG (EOU) Nayyar Hasnain Khan about the matter.
"The DGP, in his complaint, said he received WhatsApp calls on his official cellphone from a number in which the photo of the Chief Justice of Patna high court is uploaded. He suspected the matter to be fishy and informed the EOU. A special team was formed by the EOU to investigate the matter. The number was registered in the name of one Rahul Jaiswal of Patna City," he said.
"In the course of investigation, the mastermind Abhishek Agarwal (42) of Nageshwar Colony, was arrested. He used to call the Bihar police officers. Apart from him, three more were arrested, including Gaurav Raj (24) of Khajekalan, who runs a mobile SIM shop, Shubham Kumar (20) and Rahul Jaiswal (23), who run mobile phone shops. The police also recovered several mobile phones and two sim cards used by the accused. IPS officer Aditya is also a named accused in this case," the ADG said.
EOU's SP Sushil Kumar said, "The accused was working on the behest of the IPS officer to collect information about the case and close the ongoing probe against him. He allegedly colluded with the liquor mafia when posted as the SSP of Gaya. The case was also registered against the IPS officer, whose phone number is switched off and he is absconding," he said.
