LUDHIANA: Barely two days after the announcement of former councillor Radha Krishan joining the saffron party, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma on Monday cancelled the move.
In a press release, district BJP president Pushpinder Singhal said on October 15, some councillors and former councillors had joined the party of whom the joining of former councillor Radha Krishan has been cancelled.
Singhal though refused to cite the reason while claiming that he only followed the direction of the state president. But party insiders said after he was denied of party ticket in MC elections in 2018, Radhe Krishan had protested against the BJP and burnt the RSS banners. That video went viral on social media after which the party decided to cancel his joining.
A BJP leader claimed that the party could not accept such an action (burning RSS banner) of the leader.
When contacted, Radha Krishan said, “I was associated with Sangh and BJP since 1992 and remained an active worker at various levels. In 2013, I contested as an independent councillor and won the elections. But in 2018, the party did not give me the ticket. The workers who were associated with me felt disappointed. It was alleged that ticket was sold for money. Out of rage, the workers protested and burnt the effigy. We did not burn RSS uniform or flag, but only set placards with slogans written against RSS on fire.”
Radhe Krishna claimed that he was not concerned about such developments as workers were still with him and he would again win the elections.
