NAGPUR: Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested in the city on Monday against the arrest of the party’s senior leader and Delhi minister Manish Sisodia in Delhi by the central bureau of investigation (CBI). The party’s MP Sanjay Singh, who was scheduled to arrive in Nagpur, was also detained in the capital.
A party conference, Rasthra Nirmaan Sankalp Sabha, was held in the city to discuss the roadmap for the party in view of the coming polls over the course of the next two years, with the civic polls being the most awaited. With Singh being unable to attend, the other leaders took on the mantle to share the broader blueprint for the party.
Haribhau Rathod, a senior AAP leader, said, “In the country today, we have a situation where the central agencies are being misused by the BJP.”
He further added that the country’s citizens are aware of everything. “Don’t be under the impression that citizens of this country are asleep. They are watching everything and BJP will have to pay for its sins,” said Rathod.
Ranga Rachure, the state coordinator of AAP, said, “We are witnessing how those who speak up are being silenced, by taking bulldozers to their homes and that too, from a specific community. However, our constitution makes it clear that no discrimination can be done between citizens, as all are equal.”
He added that another way the opposition is being silenced is through police cases. “If you speak against Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, then it’s termed as being anti-national. Try saying something and soon a case will be filed against you,” said Rachure.
Addressing party members, Devendra Wankhede, AAP’s Vidarbha coordinator said, “We have a long struggle ahead of us and we will ensure that AAP brings good governance to people.”
After the party conference, the group held a protest at Reshimbagh Square. During the protest, Rachure said, “We are against the misuse of central agencies and attack on AAP leaders, which is done only for political purpose.”
