Will promote exports from state: Envoys at biz summit
Gurgaon: To explore export opportunities and expand scope of new investment in the state, the industries and commerce department invited seven Indian ambassadors to a business summit at the PWD resthouse on Monday. The Indian ambassadors assured industry representatives that they would promote exports from India, especially Haryana, in the countries of their posting and keep them apprised about the ways to increase investment.
Pradeep Kumar Rawat, the Indian ambassador to China, said, “There is a perception that India is a convenient place for business. So, a company like Apple started manufacturing iPhone14 in India. Now, it is likely that manufacturing units for Apple accessories will also come to India.”
“We should identify industries on which companies of international repute can rely. There is a lot of scope for exports, with immense investment potential in electronics products and textiles,” he said.
Pooja Kapoor, the Indian ambassador to Denmark, said that after seeing the presentation of Haryana, she felt Danish companies should move to Gurgaon instead of Bangalore.
Nina Malhotra, the Indian ambassador to Italy, suggested the government create a one-stop website enlisting the policies and trade-related information for the benefit of investors.
Anand Mohan Sharan, additional chief secretary of industries and commerce department, said, “Haryana is the heart of ‘self-reliant India’ and has made total exports of $28.9 billion in 2021-22. The top products exported include rice, IT, handlooms and handicrafts, automobiles and components, readymade garments, metalware, machinery and parts, and pharmaceutical drugs.”
