Chennai traffic police collect Rs 23 crore fine in last six months
CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) have collected a total fine of Rs 23.25 crore – in 9.18 lakh cases -- in the past six months (from May to October).
The police called the violators over the phone and made them pay the fine within a week. The police informed them that if they failed to pay the fine, the cases would be pushed to courts.
As a result of this, fines were paid in 3.85 lakh cases. A total of Rs 6.01 crore were remitted by the violators in old cases including in cases registered in March 2019.
A special drive for payment of fines in drunken drive cases was also launched. A total fine of Rs 6.07 crore was paid in 6,108 cases as most of the violators were fined Rs 10,000 each. Thus, a total fine of Rs 7,65 crore in total of 3.86 lakh old cases was collected.
Apart from this, penalties worth Rs 15.59 crore were collected in newly reported 5.31 lakh cases.
