Adampur bypoll: 22 in fray, independents get symbols
Hisar: To counter the confusion among the electorate due to similar names in the fray, the poll body on Monday allotted contrasting election symbols to the candidates for the November 3 Adampur assembly byelection.
Satender Singh, son of Uttam Kumar, who is contesting the bypoll as an independent, was on Monday allotted green chili as an election symbol. Satender is the namesake of AAP candidate Satinder Singh and his candidature was seen by many as an attempt to cut the votes of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. Another independent candidate Jai Prakash, son of Umadutt, will contest on the symbol of battery torch. His candidature assumes significance as Congress is fielding Jai Prakash in the contest.
The returning officer informed AAP’s covering candidate had withdrawn his nomination papers and now 22 candidates were left in the fray. All the candidates have also been allotted election symbols.
