Kalaburagi: Women in a Kalaburagi village have demanded that the individual allocation for toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan be increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000-25,000 so that families can have better toilets.
The women from Mashal village in the Afzalpur taluk have demonstrated in their hamlet for this.
Nirmala Kalloli and Sumithra Somashetty of the village said that their footwear has worn thin from their visits tro government offices but “till today no officer heard our demand. We have been to the gram panchayat officer many times. No one in that office responded to us,” one of them said.
Mashal gram panchayat president Shyamaray Pradhani said soon a community toilet for women will be constructed in the village by the panchayat.
The move of the women shows that villagers may be shifting to toilets from open defecation.
