Will try to make all litigants feel they've got justice: Next CJI
NEW DELHI: CJI-designate DY Chandrachud told TOI on Monday that his "attempt will be to bring about a balance in enforcement of rule of law."
He said, "It is a great honour and an enormous responsibility to lead the nation's judiciary. The weight of expectations on a judge and the CJI, from society and the citizenry, is enormous and is a humbling experience. As a judge, I feel a great sense of awe and responsibility every day. My earnest attempt as CJI would be to work hard and hope to leave the judicial world and the society as a better place at the end of my tenure."
Chandrachud said, "I am deeply aware of the complexities in society. There is a great burden on each constitutional court judge to strike a balance while discharging the duties. The nature of the work a judge discharges is to bring stability, cohesion and tranquility in the society."
Congratulating Chandrachud, Union law minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, "Extending my best wishes to Justice DY Chandrachud for the formal oath taking ceremony on November 9."
