MYSURU: Chamarajanagar MP and former Union minister V Srinivas Prasad of BJP on Monday said he will retire from politics after his present term as Lok Sabha member ends in 2024.
He said he is quitting due to poor health. Speaking at a public function in Mysuru on Monday, Prasad said he would complete 50 years in politics when his present term as MP ends. He said he contested a total of 14 elections in his political career and triumphed in 11 of them.
Prasad, who even represented Nanjangud (reserved) assembly segment in Mysuru, served as minister in the previous Congress government headed by Siddaramaiah.
After he was dropped from Siddaramaiah’scouncil of ministers in 2016, Prasad contested the byelections to Nanjangud assembly segment in 2017 on a BJP ticket.
He lost and decided to retire from electoral politics. But the veteran politician came under pressure from supporters to contest again. He returned to the poll fray in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and won.
