Coimbatore: Woman, boyfriend held for attempting to kill husband

COIMBATORE: The Sirumugai police on Friday arrested a woman, her boyfriend and two men for attempting to murder her husband. Deepa, 33, of Aadi Dravidar Colony at M Goundampalayam near Sirumugai, often picked up quarrels with her husband V Udhayakumar, 33.
On Thursday around 9.30pm, two unidentified men assaulted Udhayakumar with a weapon while he was walking back home from work.
The miscreants escaped after Udhayakumar raised an alarm. Villagers came to his rescue and took him to the Annur government hospital. He was later shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Based on a complaint from Udhayakumar, the Sirumugai police registered a case under sections 294 (b), 307 and 506 (ii) of the IPC. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Deepa was having an extramarital affair with S Thangaraj, 37, of M Goundampalayam near Sirumugai.
Thangaraj and his two friends - R Santhosh Kumar, 29, from Punjai Puliyampatti in Erode district and R Karthi, 25, from Jothipuram – hatched a plan to murder Udhayakumar. But their attempt failed on Thursday. Police arrested Deepa, Thangaraj, Santosh and Karthi on Friday and remanded them in judicial custody on Saturday morning.
