Fresh spell of rain opens up potholes on major roads
Bhubaneswar: Over the past few days, fresh spells of rain have washed away the top layer of numerous roadways in the city, resulting in potholes.
Major city thoroughfares such as Sachivalaya Marg, Janpath, the road in front of the Odisha Blind Association, Esplanade Mall, the road in front of the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), and major stretches in the Nayapalli and Sahid Nagar areas, have developed potholes in addition to Cuttack Road, Ravi Talkies, and the Old Town where bad roads are a constant issue.
Residents complained that the patch works done recently were short-lived and posed grave danger to commuters and motorists.
“Just fifteen days ago, the city's roads were fixed, but two or three spells of severe rain caused them to deteriorate once more. People risk their lives and encounter challenges when driving on city streets every day,” said autorickshaw driver Kartik Biswal. He claimed that the city's road system is in terrible condition.
“Various organisations are in charge of maintaining and repairing the city's roads. All agencies were asked to repair the works on a priority basis at the coordination conference. In addition, the repairs may take longer until the rainy season gets over,” said BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The city's main roads, not only have craters and potholes but the roadways have become dusty due to the worn-out surface.
Sachivalay Marg, the city's mainroad, is dusty and littered with potholes at various places.
