Bengaluru: Constable goes missing with ex-cop's Rs 8 lakh

BENGALURU: A 40-year-old former woman police constable from the city has approached Vidhana Soudha police seeking help to recover Rs 8 lakh that she gave as loan to her ex-colleague a year ago.
Sheela V of Chikkakallasandra filed a complaint against constable Sunil Kumar B from Yelandur in Chamarajanagar district. Kumar, in his late 30s, is attached to City Armed Reserve (CAR) and works as a driver of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), City Intelligence.
Kumar has been absent from work since August 2021, sources said. Sheela told STOI that she gave Rs 13 lakh to Kumar in two bank cheques in December 2020 after he sought help for cancer treatment of his mother. In the same month, Sheela took voluntary retirement, after serving the department for 16 years. Kumar had promised to repay it in three months.
"Kumar was aware of the cash in my bank account as I and many other staff from the intelligence were taking his help for banking-related work. He would get our passbooks updated periodically," Sheela said.
When Sheela repeatedly asked for the money, he returned Rs 4.7 lakh in different installments. "He is yet to give the remaining Rs 8.3 lakh. From August 2021, he remained incommunicado and his mobile phones were switched off. Initially, I contacted his seniors in the CAR and they too made futile attempts to contact him as he was absent. In January this year, I approached joint commissioner of police (crime) Raman Gupta who wrote to the DCP (CAR) for necessary action," the complaint read.
DCP (CAR) Mohammed Sujeeta MS directed her to lodge a police complaint. Sujeetha said: "The cheating case will be handled by jurisdictional police and we'll initiate departmental action ."
